Introduction

Welcome to Extra Time, the football manager game. You have just been appointed manager of your favourite team. Can you repay the board’s faith in you by winning promotion or being crowned World Super League Champions?

How does this work?

Extra Time is a game which is played over the internet, but how does it work?

1] When you join the game you will receive full details of your chosen team.
2] You then submit to us your instructions for your team, saying what you wish to do.
3] We then process your orders and send back the results showing how your team fared. You then work out and send us your next set of instructions.
4] You can play for as long as you like, and can stop at any time.

In Extra Time, because players play matches against each other, we set a date for when we need each player’s instructions. This is called the deadline date and is shown at the top of your results. Your instructions must be with us by early morning on the deadline day to be used for that week’s matches. If you are late, your deputy manager will take over and run the team in your absence. You will still receive your results as long as you have sufficient credit in your account.

The Game

Many different World Super Leagues are run, each of which has four Divisions; the World Premiership and World Divisions One, Two, and Three. In each Division there are twenty one teams. All teams start a game as equals, with a squad of players roughly the same skill. For instance, with managers of equal ability, L.A. Galaxy would be as likely to become World Champions as Manchester United.

Your club will play every other team in your Division home and away once per season, two matches per turn. That is forty league matches spread over twenty turns. You will also enter two cup competitions.

You gain two points for a win and one point for a draw. You only get two points for a win, rather than the three you would expect (as per FIFA World Rules), to keep the Divisions close and exciting! At the end of the season, the top three teams from Divisions one, two and three will be promoted and the bottom three from the World Premiership and World Divisions one and two will be relegated.
