Your Turncard has room for three different
match selections. The first two are for league games, the third is for
cup matches. The following sections explain how to fill in a new team selection.
Formation
This is the formation, or positions, you wish your team members to play in. It is a three figure number where the first number represents the number of defenders, the second midfielders and the third attackers. You must have at least one player in each position. As a quick check, the three numbers should always add up to ten (your goalkeeper makes the team up to eleven).
An example of a team formation could be 442 which would form a team of four defenders, four midfield and two attackers.
You can use any formation you wish,
as long as you do not use more than ten players and have at least one player
in each position. In general, well proportioned formations work best as
this gives a team overall balance. Crowding a defence or attack with lots
of players will leave you weak in other positions.
Unchanged Teams
You can if you wish keep the same team that played in a previous fixture. By entering a ‘0’ in the formation box for your second league match or cup match, you will use the same team selection and tactics from the match above. If you enter ‘999’ in the formation box, you will use the team from the corresponding fixture of the previous week.
For example 999 in match two will use the same team as last week’s match two.
For each ‘0’ or ‘999’ team selection
used, you are allowed to issue two extra free club orders.
Aggression
This is a value between one and nine and represents how physically your team will play. Nine represents a very aggressive, intimidating style possibly suiting a less skilful side. Playing with a high aggression rating will result in more injuries and the awarding of free kicks and possibly penalties against you.
A team with a low aggression rating
would rely on passing and moving the ball around quickly rather than getting
caught and tackled with it. Players may back away from 50/50 balls or even
60/40 balls, preferring to lose possession rather than risk an injury.
Picking your Squad
You pick eleven players to start the match. These are entered, by squad number, in the box under the position number. The goalkeeper is always position number one, and then followed by defenders, midfielders and attackers. The computer will divide the players up using your Formation.
For example, with our previous Formation
of 442, the footballers in positions numbered 2,3,4 and 5 would all play
in defence, 6,7,8 and 9 would be in midfield and 10 and 11 would be attackers.
